WHY DO YOU THINK MATARIKI LOST ITS SIGNIFICANCE?

In my opinion I think Matariki has not lost it significance but maybe a little. We still celebrate Matariki and we still use it for different things.

Cape Reinga.

Cape Reinga is the tip of New Zealand where two oceans meet. The Pacific and the Tasman sea met at the north tip of New Zealand. Did you know Maori people believe that when they die their spirits go up to Cape Reinga and go up to God then. The original meaning of Cape Reinga means under group spirits. The Cape Reinga light house was finish built in 1941. Cape Reinga was first used in May 1940 and one of the most ancient land marks in New Zealand. There is no light house keeper at Cape Reinga the light house runs on solar panels. It used to be one of New Zealand's best light houses and it still is. Cape Reinga is very famous around the world because it is one of the country's that have two oceans that meet. It does get a good check every two years.People like Cape Reinga and you need to go there.

A wrinkle in time

 The characters in the story are.

The story was set in different places such as. On the side path. As Meg was walking home from school she heard 2 people talking about her younger brother Charles Wallace. Meg dropped her books and started a fight. When she came home the had a huge bruise under one of her eyes.

At home, It was taking place in the attic and the kitchen. It was a stormy night when meg left the attic because of the noises happening. She want into the kitchen where Charles Wallace was sitting. A few minutes later Meg had a glass of milk and a sandwich with Charles Wallace.

 After Leslie died his family was supporting him. 

His dad started to care about him and help him with his emotion. 

His family is was starting to be a bit more kind to Jesse and respecting his space and art. 

In your opinion, why do you think Jess decided to share Terabithia with May Belle? 

I think Jesse let May Belle in Terabithia because he wanted to share it with her because he might have been lonely. He might also wanted to share it because he wanted to say sorry for pushing her on the floor. He might have needed someone to trust him more. He might have wanted to form a bigger relationship with May Bell. 

Chapter 10

 “Your girlfriend's dead, and Momma

thought you were dead, too.” (p. 102)

Why do you think the author ended the

chapter like this? What mood or

emotion was she trying to evoke in the

reader

I think the emotions she had is that she scared that Jessie would have died on the rope as well. She was also sad that the only friend Jesse had died. The mood she was in was she was stressed and upset. She was a bit angry at Jesse for not telling her where he was going with Leslie after school. The author ended the chapter like this because he wanted to add some emotions in to the book to make people reflect.

Chapter 8 and 9

 On page 93 the author writes, “Lord, it

would be better to be born without an

arm than to go through life with no

guts.” What do you think this means?

You would rather go through life with your guts than a arm. You need your guts to make decisions during your life time. Your guts tells you if it is the right and wrong decision. Trust your gut more than your arm.

Why does Mr. Aaron come home from work early in chapter 8?

He cam early home because he did not have enough money for clothes. Instead he spent it on other things he needed

Bridge to Terabithia chapter 7

 Imagine you are Leslie. What advice would you give Janice Avery

If I was Leslie I would tell Janice Avery to stop being so bossy to everyone. Another thing is that she must stop being such a cry baby and start wining for everything. Janice Avery needs to stop judging people around like she does to Jesse in the previous chapters. Janice Avery is blaming everyone that she knows just for doing something to her. This is the list if thing I would like Janice Avery to fix.

The best self portrait.

Today we had to create a self portrait. I tried my hardest and I am really surprised that it came out better than I thought. I think I could have done  better by making my lines straighter and making thing symmetrical.  I was learning how to use different tools. I learnt how to use a curving tool. My learning was fun and interesting. Have you tried to make one.

Catherine McAuley 09.02.2021

 Catherine McAuley was born in Ireland in 1778. She was only 5 years old when her father passed away. She had 2 siblings, one brother and a sister. Her brother and sister were Protestants, Catherine McAuley was Catholic like her father. She was in her teens when her mother died with very a high fever. After that she went to live with her friend and family, the Callaghans, in Dublin. She still used to follow in her father's Catholic faith.

 She provided the poor with clothes, food and water. She helped the poor women get jobs to earn money for them selves. One day Catherine McAuley travelled to France to learn how to teach larger classes. She taught  kids on the street the best education they can get. Once Mr Callaghan died he gave Catherine McAuley 650 thousand pounds, and not her daughter, because she was saying things about Catherine McAuley. Now a days it is probably around worth €5 million pounds. 

Catherine McAuley used that money to buy a house for the poor people to stay in. Catherine McAuley built the house on a Baggot street where the rich people used to stay, so that it was visible to them. Then she started the hunt to look for the Sisters of Mercy. The Sisters of Mercy were Catherine McAuley, Mary Elizabeth and Mary Ann Doyle. The rich saw how they were helping the poor so they made donations towards the Sisters of Mercy for better materials. They worked together to help the poor. They taught them how to knit and stitch.

 All the poor people had a wonderful education thanks to the Mercy Sisters. 

 This week we had to write a thank you card. The person I wrote to was my brother Arav. I felt awesome when told  him  I was writing a card when I got home. When I was choosing the person I was going to write for.  My brother gave me a big hug when he I wrote a card for him at the super table. Well in my card I wrote that how he makes me happy. He plays with me scootys, sword fighting and tickle fights. Thank you Arav for looking out for me everyday. This is how the world should behave. People should stop being mean and start brightening peoples day.

 My peek of the week is when I got to take a ride with my teacher to school. In the car we were discussing what our favourite songs are and then sing them. The song I chose is the Eye of the tiger 2006. I couldn’t remember the lyrics, so my teacher started to sing and hum the song and I started to sing along as well. We made a few stops on our way home but my teacher bought me and my brother and I a chocolate each for our patience. I found out that my teacher can see my house from where she is staying and I can see hers. I was so glad that they gave us a ride to school, we had so much fun together but the day had to come to an end. 

 What have I learnt??

In Geography we had been learning about Continents. We learnt what the 7 continents. The 7 continents are Asia, Europe, Antarctica ,Africa ,Australasia ,North America  and South America. My dad told me if you join up all the country's in the world they will make 1 big country. That country was only around when dinosaurs were alive. Then there was a huge earth quick that separated the countries intoindividuals. We learnt the largest to the smallest continents. The first largest is Aisa, Africa, North Amirca, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia.

 The Break In....

On Friday 14th August, my mate and I raced down the hill riding our bikes to Jack’s house . The  house was silent and I pulled out my helmet from my bag and I broke the window into pieces. There was glass scattered everywhere. I climbed through the window and jumped into his study. My mate stayed outside so he could text me when Jack was home. 

As I landed on the floor I yanked out my headphones and I listened to a song while I snooped around. I listened to Lady Marmalade. I snooped around for about 10 minutes, then I grabbed  his computer that was ontop of his printer in the lounge. I pulled out my computer so I could download private information. I saw phone numbers and real names. I used my pens and a book to write down notes. 

My mate texted me to say, “ Jack is here,get out!’ I panicked. Jack was blocking my only way out. Then my mate reminded me that I had my coffee. That is when I melted the floor. The coffee splashed on the floor and my way back to my mate was clear. On our way back home we were disgusted because we got in a lot of trouble.

We jumped on our bike and darted away but I remembered I left all of our gear there. I had fun looking at weird personal stuff but I will never do that again. 

 On Friday 14 August my class went to Waitangi to learn about coding. Our guides’ names were Whaea Kerry and Whaea Monica. They took us into our learning space. The first task was that you had to buddy up. Then you chose a card and then memorised it. Your buddy and you had to try get someone else card by avoiding your own card. For the second task we had to go on Scratch and code an avatar to do different things. I uploaded a cat looking for his pet dog in a big helmet. My cat told the whole story, I made it say all of it. That is sadly the end of our Waitangi excursion. I was happy to go back but not so exited to go back on the bus.

My teacher gave us a realy cool writing task. We had to write instructions to complete something. I did mushroom stuff, Kumara chips and cooked can corn. We had to use book creator for the task. The 1 thing I had to is think of was the ingredients and tools I will need. I thought of my own recipe and added no meat because I am vegetarian. When I was done I looked at the book and then pressed play. It was like a real book, I flipped through the pages and I was happy with it. I decided to try my recipe and home and it was delicious. My brother never want but he chowed it up and he was the first one done.

My Speech Reflection

I am proud of my speech that I said on the 3rd of August for a speech contest. My class and I all worked so hard on our speeches for a month. My topic was about “Do pets deserve the same care as humans?”. I chose my speech because I had heaps of pets in South Africa, Johannesburg. I had a little help from my dad and mum just to edit my speech but I did most of the work. I found facts online and my parents thought of what they knew. I continued to practice every afternoon. I went out on my deck, listened to the beach and practiced my speech for about a hour. I learnt my speech off by heart but the night beore the speech I made myself que cards incase I got stuck.I felt realy nervous and scared presenting it in front of my classmates. My goal was to make it to Far North Reap. Well I think I did awesome in front of my class and I hope I made it in.I need to work on not trying to say my speech really fast. It is because I get nervous. I need to work on my expression. 

The freezing holiday!!!!

On the 10 Friday of July  Pompallier Catholic school broke up for mid term brake. In the holiday i went to Taupo, Coramendle and Auckland. Here the adventure starts,on the Saturday after school broke up my family and i went down to Auckland to see our cousins. On that night we reach Auckland we had my uncles special toasties and chips on the side.  

That next we set up the bike rack and loaded the luggage and set course on Taupo. My family and I reached our house in Taupo. Inside the house the floor was freezing cold like ice. That night we had wedding potatoes with corn, carrots and chillies, for desert we had cooked marshmallows.

We went to the snow to play in it. The snow was 2 hours away at Mt Ruapeho. We had to input chains our our cars. We bought 2 sets of chains one for my dad and one for my uncle. It took us 2 hours to put the chains on 1 car so we all jumped in my dad’s car. The snow was amazing, we had snow ball fights, building snow men and sliding down hills. The good bit is that we all had a cup of hot coco and krispy Creams in Auckland.
